Alan Hutton has suggested Brandon Barker’s “time is up” at Rangers ahead of the January transfer window.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, the former Gers defender has admitted he finds the winger “frustrating to watch” as he fails to make the most of his blistering pace and skill.

As revealed by Football Insider, the 24-year-old has failed to take his chance at Ibrox and the club could cash in on him in January if they receive what they deem to be a fair fee.

This site has previously detailed how Steven Gerrard and his coaching staff had concerns over whether Barker was too “timid” to deal with the spotlight at Ibrox despite his impressive training performances.

Hutton believes the former Manchester City man has been given enough chances to prove himself and that it might be time for him to move on for the good of all parties.

Hutton told Football Insider: “Look, he’s had a lot of chances, for me.

“I think Gerrard has stuck with him, earlier on he played quite a lot games but for me, for all his attributes that he has, he doesn’t do enough for me.

“He’s got pace, I’ve seen him playing against Rangers multiple times when he was at Hibs, and it’s frustrating to watch because he was so good against them so I know what he can do.

“Then, when I watch him for Rangers, it’s as if he, I don’t know, he just floats in and out of games. It’s a difficult one.

“As we sit here today, I think he’s had loads of opportunities so maybe his time is up.”
