Leeds United have been told their number one attacker target Daniel James wants to stay at Man United, Football Insider can exclusively reveal.
Marcelo Bielsa is looking to add another winger to his United squad, as well as a number eight, before next Monday’s transfer deadline.
A Leeds source has told Football Insider that hopes of landing James, 22, have all but evaporated following new discussions with the 20-times league champions.
The Yorkshire club have been in regular contact over a potential James deal and have been forced to wait while Man United look to complete a mega-money Jadon Sancho deal.
But, irrespective of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side landing Sancho, James does not want to leave Old Trafford.
The blisteringly-quick wide man wants to fight for his place at the Premier League giants.
It mean Leeds will have to look elsewhere as Bielsa faces heartache in his attempts to land James for a second time.
He came within a whisker of signing for Leeds on transfer deadline day back in January 2019, only for Swansea City to pull the plug on the deal at the last-minute after he had already passed a medical.
Despite renewed interest from the Yorkshire outfit the following summer, Solskjaer won the multiple-club race to take him to Old Trafford.
James made a strong impression in his debut season, making 26 league starts among 46 appearances in all competitions.
They yielded four goals and seven assists but he failed to make the matchday squad last weekend against Brighton after being hauled off at half-time in the opening-day defeat to Crystal Palace.
