Alan Hutton believes that Kemar Roofe would make an "amazing replacement" for Alfredo Morelos at Rangers.

The former Gers full-back, speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, also feels that the new signing could play alongside the Colombian hitman were he to remain at Ibrox this summer.

The former Leeds forward has joined Rangers for an undisclosed fee from Anderlecht and penned a four-year deal at Ibrox.

A versatile forward, Roofe featured as a winger and a centre-forward during his spells in Belgium and at Elland Road.

Hutton, who played against the Gers' new signing in the Championship, believes Gerrard could play him in a variety of roles - including as Alfredo Morelos' replacement.

Asked where Roofe fits into the Gers' system, Hutton told Football Insider: "Well, there's the question. I've played against him and I do think he can play on the wing if Gerrard plays a 4-3-3 or if he changes to a 4-2-3-1, I'd like to see him in behind the striker.

"If Morelos does play, I think he can play in behind him but you just wonder is this the replacement striker that we've been speaking about for weeks, to play the central figure up front?

"I think he's an amazing replacement - if Morelos does go, I'm not sitting here worried any more. He can take the mantle if you like and really drive Rangers forward."

Roofe moves to Ibrox after an injury-hit season with Anderlecht where he scored six goals in 13 games.

However, the former Leeds man has not played a competitive game in 2020 after struggling with an ankle problem in Belgium.
