Alan Hutton admits that he has been left disappointed by what he has seen from Rangers winger Sheyi Ojo after his loan move from Liverpool this summer.
The former Gers and Scotland defender, speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, says that the attacker arrived at Ibrox with a lot of expectation and that he has failed to show his quality on a consistent basis.
The 22-year-old, who is at Rangers for the 2019/20 season, has already featured 23 times for the Glasgow giants, contributing five goals and five assists across all competitions.
However, with just one goal and three assists in 11 Premiership appearances, Hutton says that the England under-21 international needs to perform on a regular basis if he is to live up to expectation for the Light Blues.
Asked who he had been disappointed by this season, Hutton told Football Insider: “One that springs to mind is Ojo. He’s been very in and out, he came with big promise.
“I still believe that he’s got all the ability. Obviously Gerrard hand-picked him, you know that he’s got something and I do believe he’s shown flashes of it.
“I think he needs to be more consistent, at teams like Rangers and Celtic you’re a bit under the microscope, you can’t just have the one or two good games, it needs to be seven or eight good games out of the ten. Maybe that’s where he’s finding a bit difficult.
“I’d like to see a little bit more, hopefully we can see more.”
Ojo has spent much of his fledgeling career out on loan since joining Liverpool from MK Dons back in 2011, with spells at Wigan, Wolves, Fulham and Stade Reims under his belt.
He has a total of 13 first-team outings for the Anfield outfit, eight of those coming in the Premier League.
