Alan Hutton insists that Rangers have to stop Celtic winning titles if they want to land the same kind of blockbuster commercial deals as their rivals.
The former Gers defender, speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, admits it is not enough for the Light Blues to finish as runners up if they want to boost their commercial value.
Celtic confirmed last week that they had agreed a five-year deal with the German manufacturer, describing it as “the biggest kit sponsorship ever” in Scottish sport.

Hutton insists that the pulling power comes down to the success of the Hoops and that Rangers have to stop them if they want parity in the boardroom.
Hutton told Football Insider: “I think they’ve got the same size of fanbase all over the world, the difference with Celtic at the moment is that they’re winning things.
“It’s plain and simple, they’ve won everything there is to win over X number of years so I think from a sponsor’s point of view, they’re getting it out there more.
“I obviously understand why Adidas have went to Celtic and supposedly given them the biggest deal in Scottish history so I do see where it’s come from.
“I think for Rangers to get back to that level, it’s a simple as winning things – I think everybody knows that.”
Rangers currently sit 13 points behind Celtic in the top-flight table, albeit with a game in hand.
The Hoops are on course for their fourth successive domestic treble, making it to the semi-finals of the Scottish Cup after winning the Scottish League Cup.
In other Celtic news, the club are looking to let a treble-treble winner leave this summer.
