Alan Hutton exclusive: I'd be worried if I was Celtic star after significant Lennon reveal

Alan Hutton has cast doubts over the future of Celtic striker Leigh Griffiths after Neil Lennon confirmed talks over signing a new striker.

The former Aston Villa and Scotland defender, speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge

Lennon has previously admitted he is looking at a number of options to bolster his attack, going as far as to confirm talks had taken place with Slavan Bratislava over striker Andraz Sporar.

Hutton says that Griffiths has failed so far to stake a claim under Lennon and that he would be worried if he was in the striker’s shoes.

Hutton told Football Insider: “I must admit, if I’m at a club as a right-back and they’re looking at all these different right-backs, I would start to worry a little.

“He’s obviously been out for a long time, we know how good he can be or how good he is. All the talk of new strikers coming in, maybe Celtic are looking elsewhere to bring somebody in.

“He’s still got a contract there, he’s still got a lot to offer. It’s about getting himself right, training hard as he has and getting back in the team, taking the chance when you get it. He’s had a few opportunities recently and not really taken them as such.”

Griffiths, a 19-cap Scotland international, has scored three goals in his 16 appearances for the Hoops this season, injury leaving him sidelined between September and the start of November.

Odsonne Edouard has been Lennon’s first-choice up front, while Lewis Morgan has been used as a makeshift option in recent weeks.

In other Celtic news, Football Insider can reveal that the club are plotting to sign a Premier League midfielder in January.
