The signing of Calum Chambers from Arsenal would “definitely help” Leeds United get over the loss of Ben White, according to Alan Hutton.
The former Aston Villa and Scotland full-back, speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, believes Marcelo Bielsa could do with some proven Premier League experience after the “massive blow” of White’s return to Brighton.
The club are also trying to prise promising centre-back Haydon Roberts away from Brighton and have already tabled a six-figure bid for his capture.
Hutton believes that some top-flight experience would help the Whites settle in the Premier League after they conceded seven goals from their opening two games.
Hutton told Football Insider: “He’s got experience, he’s played in big games for a big club, had a lot of Premier League experience and maybe that’s something that they need – a calming voice to get his foot on the ball.
“He can fill in at right-back, centre-half, he can do different roles so yeah, obviously losing White back to Brighton has not helped, I think he was one of their main players last season in the defence so to lose him was a huge blow.
“They’re still probably looking to fix that – I think Chambers coming in could help, whether he’s going to fix it on his own I’m not sure but he would definitely help.”
Chambers has played 139 times in the Premier League to date, while he also has three England caps to his name.
He is yet to play this season as he closes in on a return from an ACL injury suffered late last year.
