'The difference between Rangers & Celtic' - Hutton reacts as Lennon launches new deal talks
Alan Hutton admits he was blown away by Celtic attacker Ryan Christie this season and admits it is no surprise the club want to hand him a new contract.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, the former Rangers and Scotland star called the 25-year-old “the difference between” the two Glasgow giants this term.
Speaking about Christie’s future, as quoted by the Daily Record, Neil Lennon admitted he would “love to give him an extension” and that the club will be launching talks “soon”.
Having seen the attacking midfielder play a crucial role in Celtic’s title-winning campaign, Hutton insists that the former Inverness Caledonian Thistle star is well-deserving of a new deal.
Asked if Christie was going anywhere, Hutton told Football Insider: “Oh, no way. He’s been unbelievable since he signed to be fair to him. He’s popped up this season and scored and incredible amount of goals.
“It’s possibly the difference between Rangers and Celtic at the moment. When you look at it, Morelos and Edouard have very similar goal tallies but you look at the wingers – Ryan Kent and Christie, Forrest – the difference between them is the goals, simple as that.

“It doesn’t surprise me Celtic want to tie him down to a long-term deal and he thoroughly deserves it.”
Christie has scored 19 goals and chipped in with a further 16 assists across all competitions for Celtic during the 2019/20 campaign, with 11 of each in the Premiership.
He has played a total of 94 times for the Bhoys, while he also has 11 Scotland caps under his belt.
In other Celtic news, Frank McAvennie has revealed he has spoke to Christie’s dad about Ryan’s future.
