Alan Hutton suggests that Olivier Ntcham will take Ryan Christie’s place in the Celtic starting XI after the attacking midfielder’s red card versus Livingston.
The former Scotland international, speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, says that the 24-year-old will be a huge loss to manager Neil Lennon after his dazzling performances across all competitions this season.
Christie has already scored 11 goals for the Bhoys, six of those coming in the Scottish top flight, but he faces a couple of games on the sidelines after picking up a straight red card in the 2-0 defeat to Livingston.
With a home tie against Ross County waiting for Lennon and his men on the other side of the international break, Hutton suggests that it will be Ntcham to take Christie’s place in the starting XI after being benched for Sunday’s clash.
Hutton told Football Insider: “He’s made a lunge for the ball, it’s a bad one, it’s a red card, I think everybody knows that, nobody’s arguing the fact, but it’s not in his game. I’ve never seen him being that sort of player.
“It’s going to be hard (to replace him). I do think it’ll be Ntcham instead of Christie.”
Ntcham has played 16 times for Celtic already this season despite appearing like he could leave Parkhead over the summer, although only seven of those appearances have come among the starting XI under Neil Lennon.
Half of his eight league outings have come from the first whistle during the current campaign, his only goal so far coming on the opening day against St Johnstone.
In other Celtic news, Hutton has blasted some of the Hoops’ new signings after a claim from Neil Lennon.
