Alan Hutton was thrilled over the thought of Steven Gerrard planning to hand Rangers midfielder Glen Kamara a new contract.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Laura O’Leary, the ex-Gers defender admitted a new deal for Kamara would not only be a big boost but would end the speculation about his future.
It was recently reported that Gerrard is already making plans to hand the midfielder a new deal to make sure the player isn’t tempted by any bids coming in for him in January.
It is believed that the likes of Arsenal, Brighton Crystal Palace, Burnley, Aston Villa and Leeds United are keen on Kamara’s services.
Hutton explained that offering the 24-year-old a new deal also made sense from a business perspective as it would cause the Gers to be able to demand more money for him.
When asked if Gerrard planning to get Kamara to sign a new deal is a big boost, Hutton told Football Insider: “Yeah totally.
“It gets you out of this January madness, if he was to sign a new deal soon, it takes away all the speculation.
“And he has done unbelievably well let’s be honest as coming from Dundee to become one of Steven Gerrard’s main midfielders…he’s been absolutely brilliant.
“So as well, from a business point of view, you tie him down long term and then in the summer, if these teams come calling again, the fee has to go up as he’s maybe got the three/four-year deal there.
“So it’ll be Rangers looking after themselves as well as the player, it’s a win-win for both.”
Kamara’s current Gers contract still has a notable amount of time left to run on it as it doesn’t expire until 2023.
The Finland international has regularly featured for the Gers this season as he has played 29 times across all competitions.
In other Rangers news, it can be REVEALED that the club have offered a contract to a West Ham rising star who is on the verge of January transfer.
