Joel Lynch is undergoing a medical at Sunderland today after agreeing terms with the club, Football Insider understands.
The defender, 31, has been looking for a new club after leaving Queens Park Rangers at the end of last season.
A Sunderland source has told Football Insider that Lynch has settled the terms of a one-year deal with the club and is set to put pen to paper after completing medical tests.
The former Huddersfield Town and Nottingham Forest defender Lynch had a trial at Premier League new boys Sheffield United earlier this summer, but they opted against offering him a deal at Bramall Lane
Sunderland boss Jack Ross has been looking to strengthen his options at centre-back and Lynch fits the bill for the Black Cats chief.
The Wales international boasts a wealth of experience having made nearly 400 appearances in his career to date, including 37 for QPR last season.
Ross feels he will be a valuable addition to his squad as he looks to try and win promotion to the Championship this campaign.
