Ipswich Town could terminate Kalvin Phillips' loan deal in the January window, sources have told Football Insider.

It is believed the Tractor Boys will consider sending the 28-year-old back to Man City early if he cannot demonstrate that he is up to speed.

Football Insider revealed on Tuesday (22 October) that Ipswich chiefs are not happy with the condition of Phillips.

Sources say the Suffolk outfit are “amazed” at Phillips’ lack of mobility and running power, while insiders say his condition is nowhere near the level of a top Premier League footballer.

Senior club figures believe Phillips' "head is still at Leeds" and feel he wants a return to Elland Road.

The England international's standing in the game has plummeted since he left the Yorkshire giants to join Man City in 2022.

He also had a disastrous loan spell with West Ham in the second half in the 2023-24 campaign, making just 10 first-team appearances before being bombed out of the first-team squad.

Phillips has made six appearances across all competitions this term after suffering injuries in the early part of the season.

However, the 28-year-old - who is under contract at City until 2028 - has completed the full 90 minutes in just one of those outings.

Ipswich are 17th in the Premier League on four points and are one of four winless sides in the top flight this season.

Meanwhile, Leeds are among the favourites for promotion back to the top flight after failing to emerge from the Championship last term.
