Ipswich have made a £2million bid for Rangers forward Josh Windass, Football Insider sources understands.

Ipswich have targeted a move for Windass as they seek a replacement for Derby-bound Martyn Waghorn.

The Championship club have money to reinvest after selling Waghorn for £5million plus add ons and they have moved to test Rangers' resolve to hang onto Windass.

A well placed source has told Football Insider that Rangers boss Steven Gerrard would be reluctant to lose Windass as he looks to build a side capable of challenging Celtic this season, but a deal would see the Ibrox outfit make a tidy profit having signed Windass on a pre-contract from Accrington.

Windass scored 18 goals for Rangers last season in all competitions and his form has brought him to the attention of a number of clubs in England.

Rangers tied down Windass to a new contract in February after they fended off interest from several sides during the January transfer window.
