Exclusive: Kevin Phillips in awe of 'Incredible' Everton behind-scenes man pivotal to revival

Everton assistant manager Duncan Ferguson has “incredible” passion for the club and he has been “pivotal” behind the scenes to the team’s recent revival.

That is according to ex-England striker Kevin Phillips, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the transformation in fortunes at Goodison Park.

Ferguson initially united the supporters during his spell in caretaker charge in December before Carlo Ancelotti took over as permanent manager later that month.

The 48-year-old former striker dropped back down to the backroom staff as he was appointed assistant manager to the Italian.

Phillips is in no doubt about Ferguson’s influence, on matchday and at the club’s training headquarters.

“He’s pivotal to the success and I think every club needs someone in their ranks
that has been there at the club for a long time, has got an affiliation, love for the club because you need them sort of people,” Phillips told Football Insider.

“Duncan Ferguson did unbelievable when he did when he took over for a short period, his passion for the club, you saw on the touchline, was just incredible so you need people like them.

“Even in and around the club I can imagine Duncan Ferguson going down to the academy and just talking to young players, he is an inspiration at that football club.”

Ferguson has a lengthy association with Everton after two playing spells at the club, lasting 10 years in total.

He has been on the first-team coaching staff since 2014 and worked under a number of different managers.

In other Everton news, it can be REVEALED that the club have made an approach to sign £14m-valued Serie A star rejected by David Moyes.
