Exclusive: Kevin Phillips names the Leeds player he expects to Dazzle this season

Leeds United midfielder Kalvin Phillips has been tipped to “shine” in the Premier League by Kevin Phillips.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs the former Sunderland striker also revealed that he thinks the rest of the Leeds United squad may struggle with the step up.

Phillips, 24, made his England debut in their 0-0 draw against Denmark on Tuesday and could make his Premier League bow against Liverpool this weekend.

Marcelo Bielsa gave away no clues about his starting line-up against Liverpool in his pre-match press conference but this site revealed record signing Rodrigo may be in line to miss out.

Asked by Football Insider who will be Leeds’ standout performer in the upcoming season, Phillips said: “It’s always hard to say.

“I remember when we came out of the Championship at Sunderland, there wasn’t many of us that had played in the Premier League and we finished seventh.

“You always get one of those players that stands out, and myself, getting those goals that I did in the first season was quite incredible.

“Now, Kalvin Phillips has made his international debut before he’s made his Premier League debut which doesn’t happen very often.

“I’ll be intrigued now to see how he handles the week in, week out playing against top class players.

“I expect him to shine, to be honest, I think he’s a top player.

“In terms of anyone else, I think it’s going to be really difficult. I hope we’re talking in three or four months saying that there’s one or two of these players that have really shone.”
