Kevin Phillips has tipped Celtic to sign Jordon Ibe after it was confirmed the winger would leave Bournemouth this summer.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs, the former Sunderland and Aston Villa striker backed the 24-year-old to “show everyone what a top player he is” if he completes a move to Parkhead.

Ibe is preparing to leave Bournemouth on a free transfer upon the expiration of his contract on 30 June but was coy on his future.

Football Insider revealed in March that the former Liverpool attacker is willing to take a pay cut to join Neil Lennon’s side this summer.

The new Scottish Premiership season is expected to begin in August and Ibe would be available to join Neil Lennon’s squad from 1 July.

When asked Football Insider if he believed the English attacker would succeed in the Scottish Premiership, Phillips said: “Jordon has frustrated people. He has a load of talent but it has not quite worked out.

“He might go to Celtic, play week in, week out and winning football matches.

“It is amazing when you play for a side that is winning games you do not get as many injuries or pick up as many strains because you want to play every week.

“That could be a great move for him. Go and resurrect his career and show everyone what a top player he is.”

Ibe has failed to hit the heights since his £16million move to the Cherries from Liverpool in 2016 and has only four appearances to his name this campaign.

The winger, who earns around £40,000-a-week, has been capped four times by England’s under-21 side but is yet to feature for the senior team.
