Kevin Phillips has tipped Everton to sign Tyrone Mings this summer as Aston Villa face relegation.
The former England international, speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs, claimed that the 27-year-old would “shine” at Goodison Park playing with a better calibre of player.
Villa are three points adrift of safety with just two games remaining and relegation would raise serious doubts over a number of players’ futures at the club.
Football Insider revealed that Villa may be forced to sell the England international for around £30million if they go down after an Everton approach.
Mings, who has made 34 appearances this season, is being targeted by Carlo Ancelotti this summer.
When asked by Football Insider if he could see the defender on Merseyside, Phillips said:
“I could see him slipping in there, no problem.
“The big advantage that Tyrone has is that he is left footed. There is not many of those around. Of course he is also now an England international.
“Tyrone has had to do an awful lot of defending this year and at times you question his decision-making but ultimately, when you have to defend for that amount of time, you are going to make mistakes. You are going to make errors but hopefully he will have learnt from that.
“If he goes into a top-10 side I think he would shine because he’d have a better quality of player around him. That would develop him quickly.
“Everton look like they’re moving in the right direction so that would be a good fit.”
