Rafael Camacho’s representatives are set to meet Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp today (Wednesday) to try and sort out his future as the manager could pull the plug on his exit, Football Insider understands.
Liverpool are reluctant to sanction a loan move for the attacking midfielder this month despite Sporting Lisbon making multiple offers in an attempt to seal a January deal.
Highly-rated teenager Camacho made his competitive debut for Liverpool in Monday’s FA Cup defeat to Wolves playing in an unfamiliar right-back position and the 18-year-old put in a composed performance for the full 90 minutes.
A well-placed source told Football Insider that a number of clubs have made bids to take the Portugal Under-20 international Camacho on loan during this month’s transfer window.
Sporting Lisbon are leading the race to sign the skilful attacker and remain hopeful a loan deal can be agreed with Liverpool but there is a real possibility it could collapse.
The Portuguese club feel they can offer Camacho regular first-team football until the end of the season in his preferred position of left wing and then Camacho will be better placed to return to Liverpool in the summer to challenge for a first-team spot in Klopp’s plans.
The source added that Klopp is a big admirer of Camacho and has big plans for him in the future.
He is unsure of sanctioning a loan move for the former Manchester City starlet as he does not want to leave his squad short as they look to continue their quest for Premier League and Champions League glory.
In other Liverpool transfer news, a £7m deal has been agreed after a recommendation from Dejan Lovren.
