EXCLUSIVE By Pete O’Rourke
Teenage striker Jack Clarke is set to sign his first Leeds United professional contract on Thursday, Football Insider can reveal.
Clarke is regarded as one of the most promising young prospects to come through the youth ranks at Leeds in recent years.
A well-placed source has told Football Insider that the forward will put pen to paper on the deal later on Thursday, the day that he turns 17.
Clarke has been a prolific goalscorer for the club’s Under-16s and 18s side for the last couple of seasons and he has scored nine goals in just seven starts for the Under-18s so far this term.
Football Insider has learned that the teenager’s impressive form at Leeds has brought him to the attention of several Premier League clubs and Leeds have moved to fend off the interest in the teenager by tying him down to his first pro deal.
Clarke also made his debut for the Under-23s side last season and has remained part of the group this season, while he is also training with Thomas Christiansen first-team on a regular basis.
News of Clarke’s professional contract will come as a welcome boost to Leeds with the forward tipped to become a star of the future at Elland Road.
