Leeds United are lining up a summer move for Reading midfielder John Swift after being impressed by his transformation this season, Football Insider understands.

The Championship promotion hopefuls have been keeping close tabs on the 23-year-old, who has established himself as a lynchpin in central midfield for the Royals.

A club source has told Football Insider that Leeds believe the former Chelsea player can be a driving force in their midfield next season regardless of whether they are in the Premier League or Championship.

The former England Under-21 international is a creative midfielder and is the type of player who would suit Marcelo Bielsa's free-flowing style of play.

Reading would be reluctant to lose one of their key players, but Leeds are ready to test their resolve with a concerted swoop ahead of the summer window.

Swift has been one of Reading's shining lights in what has been a disappointing campaign for the Royals this season as they have battled against relegation from the Championship.

He has scored six goals and laid on three assists in 37 appearances in all competitions for Reading so far this season.
