Leeds United have opened talks with Forest Green over a potential deal to sign winger Reece Brown, Football Insider can reveal.

The Championship giants have made contact with the League Two outfit after their failure to reach the play-off final following their elimination at the hands of Tranmere Rovers earlier this week.

Brown is out of contract at Forest Green this summer and is one of the best free agents this summer in the Football League with a host of clubs ready to fight for his signature.

Forest Green are resigned to losing Brown this summer and they would only be due minimal compensation from whoever he joins if the deal goes to a tribunal.

A Leeds source has told Football Insider the club are keen to avoid any move for Brown going to a tribunal and have enquired to Forest Green about how much it would cost to strike a deal.

The 23-year-old impressed for Forest Green this season, scoring 11 goals and providing 15 assists to help the unfancied club reach the League Two play-offs.

Leeds are determined to add to their attacking options ahead of next season and Brown is among their top targets as he he is capable of playing on either wing or as a support striker.
