Kalvin Phillips will hold crunch talks with Leeds United in the next 48 hours about his future at the club, Football Insider can reveal.
The central midfielder, 23, has emerged as United’s most in-demand player on the back of their impressive Championship campaign that ended in play-off heartache last week.
Leeds academy product Phillips has just two years to run on his contract at Elland Road after, as revealed by Football Insider, the club stalled on offering new contracts to him and other key players during the season.
The player and his representatives will hold sit-down talks with United officials about his future, including the possibility of a new and improved contract.
Football Insider has been told that Marcelo Bielsa’s situation could be a key factor in whether Phillips extends his association with the club he joined as a child.
The manager has held extensive talks with club chiefs including Andrea Radrizzani and director of football Victor Orta about returning to Elland Road for a second campaign.
Bielsa transformed Phillips into a midfield anchorman at the start of the season and he responded with a series of outstanding performances that resulted in him winning the Leeds player of the year award as well as being named in the official Football League team of the season.
In other Leeds United news, it can be REVEALED that the future of a key Whites player is massively in doubt after a “falling-out” with Bielsa behind the scenes.
