Leicester City's owners decided to sack Steve Cooper after entering the dressing room in the wake of Saturday's 2-1 defeat to Chelsea, sources have told Football Insider.

The senior executives spoke to the players shortly after the full-time whistle at the King Power Stadium to assess the mood of the changing room.

Sources have told Football Insider that the players were very critical of Cooper's tactics and set-up against the team overseen by their former manager Enzo Maresca.

One senior star, who was in the starting XI against Chelsea, is believed to have let it be known to the owners that the manager's tactics were a "f***** disgrace".

Maresca's side were well below their best but were able to outclass the Foxes on the day, dominating 64 per cent of the possession and having 16 shots to the hosts' four.

Leicester's only shot on target came via Jordan Ayew's 95th-minute penalty.

The statement also explained that first team coach Ben Dawson would oversee the first-team training "as the clubs begins the appointment of a new manager, which we hope to conclude as soon as possible".

The owners' decision to part ways with Cooper following the Chelsea defeat came after increasing pressure on his position, with the Foxes 16th in the league after 12 games.
