Liverpool's next manager set to receive mammoth transfer budget - only one club in the Premier League could rival them

Liverpool are expected to spend big in the summer window as they prepare to appoint a new manager and director of football, sources have told Football Insider.

It is believed off-field distractions like Jurgen Klopp's exit and the impact of Premier League's Financial Fair Play restrictions prevented the Reds spending big in January.

All told, the English top-flight saw just 17 permanent deals go through in the mid-season window with FFP making its mark for the majority of clubs.

But a well-placed source has told Football Insider that a "big spend" is expected as usual in the summer as clubs look to do their main business.

It is believed Man United will likely rival Liverpool in terms of purchasing power following the INEOS-backed takeover which was announced last year.

Clubs like the Reds will be wary about FFP restrictions but the summer transfer window is certainly expected to be busy despite the quiet January.

Finance guru Kieran Maguire has also told Football Insider (6 February) that Klopp’s replacement at Liverpool is set to have a "huge" transfer budget available to them in the summer.

Liverpool

The Reds overhauled their midfield with the signings of Wataru Endo, Dominik Szoboszlai, Alexis Mac Allister and Ryan Gravenberch last summer.

Klopp's side sit top of the Premier League by two points - but have played one more game than second-place Man City.
