Exclusive: London club agree to sign Joe Ledley on a free

Charlton Athletic are poised to sign former Celtic and Derby County midfielder Joe Ledley on a free transfer, Football Insider can reveal.

Ledley is a free agent after leaving Derby last February when his contract was cancelled by mutual consent.

A Charlton source has told Football Insider that boss Lee Bowyer has been exploring the free agent market in a bid to bolster his injury-hit squad and he has moved to agree a short-term deal with Ledley.

The 32-year-old has accepted the Championship club's offer and is set to slot straight into their squad.

Bowyer knows he need more bodies in his squad so that his side can cope with the busy festive period and he feels Ledley will prove a valuable addition.

Ledley boasts a wealth of experience having had spells at Cardiff City, Celtic, Crystal Palace and Derby.

Ledley has made 257 appearances in the Championship during his career and has also played extensive in the Premier League, Scottish Premiership and in the international game.

His most successful spell was during his four years at Celtic, where he was an integral member of the side that three league titles and two Scottish Cups while he was there during 157 appearances that yielded 30 goals and 24 assists.

The midfielder has also won 77 caps for Wales and was a member of Chris Coleman's side that reached the semi-finals of Euro 2016.
