Exclusive: Major update in Tottenham bid to sign Willian Jose

Tottenham are not expecting to sign Real Sociedad striker Willian Jose this month after talks over a deal reached a deadlock, Football Insider can reveal.

The Brazilian has been offered to Spurs as they look to recruit a new forward by the transfer cut-off after Harry Kane tore a hamstring on New Year’s Day.

A Tottenham source has told Football Insider that reports in Spain that an agreement has been reached for Willian to head straight to the club are wide of the mark.

Spurs’ stance at the time of writing is that a deal is “unlikely” due to Sociedad’s asking price.

The La Liga club have slapped what Football Insider has been told is a £12million asking price on the front man, 28.

The Londoners have made it clear in discussions they are not willing to pay that sum and an agreement is some way off.

Spurs regard alternative targets as more realistic as they pursue a new striker capable of slotting straight into the team.

Son Heung-Min and Lucas Moura have been leading the attack in Kane’s absence but neither is at their most effect as the spearhead.

Willian is keen to secure a move to the Premier League and speculation he would get his wish went into overdrive after he was left out of Sociedad’s squad for their Copa Del Rey game against Espanyol last night.

A tweet from the club read: “Lobete enters the list instead of Willian Jose. The forward has asked the club to remain on the sidelines until his situation is clarified.”

In other Tottenham news, it can be REVEALED that the club are plotting a blockbuster late-window move for striker with 28 top-flight goals this season.
