Manchester City could face further investigations if their 115 charges case goes against them following La Liga president Javier Tebas’s latest allegations, sources have told Football Insider

Man City were dealt the charges by the Premier League in February 2023 for allegedly breaching the financial fair play (FFP) rules over a nine-year period between 2009 and 2018.

They are alleged to have concealed payments through third parties by disguising them as sponsorship revenue.

An independent commission hearing started in September last year and ended in December, with the panel now considering its verdict.

Speaking to journalists at The Financial Times’ Business of Football Summit on Thursday (27 February), Tebas accused Man City of an Enron-style deception by hiding their costs in affiliated companies.

The US energy firm's executives were found to have earned millions from using partnerships to generate false profits and hide its debt.

Tebas said La Liga filed a complaint to the European Commission about the Premier League champions’ behaviour in July 2023, with an investigation currently ongoing.

Sources have told Football Insider it’s unlikely the EU’s executive arm would still be conducting its probe more than 18 months after the claim was submitted.

However, if Man City are found to have committed “major” breaches in their 115 charges case, that could lead to further investigations taking place outside of the Premier League.

Man City have shown 'massive' confidence in 115 charges case

Football Insider revealed last April Man City could be relegated to the Championship if they are found guilty of the charges.

Their lawyers are expected to appeal against any potential punishment after the club have been adamant they haven’t done anything wrong since the charges were handed out two years ago.

Finance expert Stefan Borson told Football Insider Man City have shown “massive” confidence in their 115 charges case following their latest deals.

They spent £180million on four new additions in the January transfer window, while Pep Guardiola and Erling Haaland have also agreed new contracts.

Guardiola is looking to replace Kyle Walker after he joined AC Milan on loan in the January window, with an option-to-buy clause included in the deal.

Man City currently sit fourth in the Premier League table following their disappointing campaign.
