Manchester City are plotting a move to sign highly-rated Cardiff City defender Cameron Coxe, Football Insider understands.

Coxe has been on the fringes of the Cardiff City first team this season, but he is highly-regarded at the Welsh club after coming through the ranks at the Cardiff City Stadium.

A Man City source has told Football Insider that the club's scouts have been closely monitoring Coxe's progress for  some time and they see the athletic defender as a potential star in the making and someone who they can develop into a first-team player at the Etihad Stadium.

The 20-year-old made his first-team debut in August 2017 in the EFL Cup against Burton Albion and he has been on the bench for the first-team this season.

The attacking full-back has represented Wales at all youth levels from Under-17s to Under-21s and he was named in the senior squad for last May's friendly with Mexico.

Coxe has been called up for a senior training camp with Ryan Giggs' Wales squad later this month and he is seen as someone who will become a mainstay in the senior squad in the near future.
