Manchester United could face issues matching the value of their existing sleeve sponsorship deal if they fail to qualify for the Champions League this season, sources have told Football Insider

Man United have faced several sponsor issues over the past few months after missing out on European football following their 15th-place finish in the Premier League last season.

In terms of their sleeve sponsorship, Man United agreed a £20million-a-year deal with DXC Technology ahead of the 2022-23 campaign.

However, TBR Football reported on 31 October the deal with the American IT services company is set to expire at the end of this season, potentially leaving the club without a sleeve partnership.

Sources have told Football Insider Man United could struggle to agree another £20m deal if they fail to qualify for the Champions League again this season, with Ruben Amorim’s side currently sitting eighth in the Premier League table.

How much commercial revenue do Man United generate?

Man United’s commercial issues have been laid bare for all to see as a result of their disappointing on-field performances over the past couple of years.

Under the terms of their kit manufacturer deal with Adidas, Man United have been deducted £10m from their £90m-a-year agreement after failing to qualify for the Champions League

Meanwhile, Marriott International – the world’s largest hotel company – decided not to extend its sponsorship deal with the club after it expired at the end of the 2024-25 campaign.

Man United are also currently without a training kit partner after their deal with Tezos came to an end over the summer.

It is understood the deal with the blockchain platform was worth at least £20m a year, leaving another significant hole in their accounts for this season.

However, Man United continue to bring in the second-highest revenue in the Premier League, with their turnover increasing from £661.8m in 2023-24 to £666.5m last season.

That was boosted by an uplift in commercial income, which improved from £302.9m to £333.3m across the same period.

Premier League clubs facing 'huge' sponsor issues

It isn’t just Man United who have been facing commercial concerns in recent months.

Football Insider revealed in July Premier League clubs are facing “huge” sponsorship issues as Chelsea continue to play without a front-of-shirt deal.

Enzo Maresca’s side have failed to land a long-term partnership over the past couple of years, with DAMAC’s logo appearing on their shirts for the final few months of the 2024-25 campaign.

Chelsea are yet to agree a new front-of-shirt deal for this season as they continue to hold out for their £60m valuation.

The Blues’ last major shirt deal came in the 2023-24 campaign when Infinite Athlete agreed to pay £40m for a single season.
