Manchester United are facing sponsorship issues as a result of their disappointing on-field performances, sources have told Football Insider

Ruben Amorim’s side have picked up one point from their opening two Premier League games against Arsenal and Fulham

Meanwhile, Man United were beaten by Grimsby Town on penalties in the second round of the Carabao Cup on Wednesday (27 August).

The 20-time English champions are currently looking to agree new sponsorship deals as they aim to boost their revenues at Old Trafford.

However, sources say Man United’s disappointing results on the pitch over the past year – and at the start of the new season – are impacting their ability to agree lucrative deals.

Man United deducted £10m after crushing blow

Man United have faced several sponsor issues over the past few months following their disappointing campaign last season, where they missed out on European football after finishing 15th in the Premier League table.

Under the terms of their kit manufacturer deal with Adidas, Man United have been deducted £10million from their £90million-a-year agreement after failing to qualify for the Champions League

Meanwhile, Marriott International – the world’s largest hotel company – decided not to extend its sponsorship deal with the club after it expired at the end of the 2024-25 campaign.

Man United are also currently without a training kit partner after their deal with Tezos came to an end this summer.

It is understood the deal with the blockchain platform was worth at least £20million a year, leaving another significant hole in their accounts for this season.

In their latest published accounts for 2023-24, Man United posted a club-record revenue of £661.8million, while their commercial revenue remained static at £302.9million.

Man United agree cut-price Alejandro Garnacho deal

In terms of transfer activity, Man United have agreed to sell Alejandro Garnacho to Chelsea ahead of the window closing on 1 September.

However, the deal is understood to be worth less than £40million, which is significantly lower than the Manchester giants’ initial £50million asking price.

Garnacho, who is yet to play this season, has been pushing for a move to Stamford Bridge over the past few weeks.

The 21-year-old has registered 26 goals and 22 assists in 144 appearances at Old Trafford.
