Exclusive: Marseille to lodge imminent big bid for Rangers 22-year-old, Gerrard stance explained
EXCLUSIVE by Pete O’Rourke
Marseille are lining up an imminent and substantial bid of £5.4m+ for Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos, Football Insider sources understands.
Rangers are reluctant to lose their star striker with Gers boss Steven Gerrard calling on the club to tie down Morelos to a bumper new deal to fend off the interest in the Colombian.
Morelos’ future at Rangers has been the subject of speculation in recent weeks with Bordeaux seeing a £3.75m bid rejected by Rangers earlier this month.
The 22-year-old striker, who finished last season as Rangers’ top scorer with 18 goals in his debut campaign for the club, has started the new season in fine form with six goals in eight games in all competitions, including a hat-trick in last weekend’s League Cup win over Kilmarnock.
Marseille are in the market for a new striker before the close of the European transfer window at the end of the month and Morelos has emerged on their radar.

The French giants are keen to bolster their attacking options at the Stade Velodrome and they are ready to test Rangers’ resolve to hang onto Morelos with a substantial bid for the South American.
