'Looks a different player' - Exclusive: Manager wowed by Spurs man after display in 1-0
Alex McLeish claims that Erik Lamela “looks a different player” for Tottenham after Monday’s 1-0 win over Burnley.
The former Premier League manager, speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, insists the 28-year-old has become a more “elegant” player than when he first landed in north London.
Lamela came on as a substitute against the Clarets as he replaced Lucas Moura just before the hour mark at Turf Moor.
A goal from Heung-min Son was enough to seal victory for the Lilywhites and launch them up to fifth in the table.
McLeish insists that Lamela used to try and do too much on the ball but that he has developed his game to provide “more end product” for his teammates.
McLeish told Football Insider: “Lamela looks a different player, he doesn’t lose it as easy as when he first came in.

“He had a tendency to overkill on the ball. Now he’s got a really smooth running action and he’s so elegant looking, he can go by people and then he knows when he’s done his quota and he’ll pass it, try and thread a through pass.
“I think he’s got more end product now in terms of building up of the passing game for Spurs. Finishing-wise, I’m sure he can get a couple of goals as well and he’s just part of a pretty strong squad.”
Lamela has played eight times across all competitions this season, although only three of his outings have come among the starting XI.
He has the likes of Lucas, Son, Gareth Bale and Dele Alli to battle with for a place in the Spurs attack.
