Rangers news: McNamara believes Gerrard has told Morelos he's staying

Exclusive: McNamara believes Gerrard has held crunch talks as PL giants plot Rangers raid

Jackie McNamara says he believes Rangers manager Steven Gerrard has told Alfredo Morelos to wait until the summer if he wants to leave Ibrox.

The former Celtic and Scotland defender, speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, says that there is no chance the Light Blues will be selling their star striker this month, regardless of whether he is tempted.

As revealed exclusively by Football Insider, Premier League giants Tottenham are plotting a late move for the Colombian international in a bid to solve their issues up front.

However, McNamara believes the club will stand firm over their public stance that Morelos is not for sale and suggests Gerrard has held talks with the player over his future.

“I don’t think you’ll see anyone leaving Rangers or Celtic, this window, that’s needed,” McNamara told Football Insider.

“Regardless of the money, they’ll wait till the summer. If they sell anyone now, the place, the fans would go crazy. He’s under contract, they’ll maybe say: ‘Wait until the summer if that’s the case.’

“I think they’ll (Gerrard and Morelos) have had this chat already, that he’s not going anywhere, he signed a contract maybe to stop that.”

Morelos has been in outstanding form in front of goal this season, netting 28 goals across all competitions as Rangers push for Premiership glory as well as success on the European stage.

He scored a total of 30 goals in 48 appearances last season as they finished second to Celtic once again.

In other Rangers news, Alan Hutton has urged Gerrard to axe a senior player for a teenage talent with a “massive future”.
