Exclusive: McNamara believes 'Talented' Celtic player likely to be overlooked by Lennon
Jackie McNamara gushed about Celtic midfielder Scott Robertson but suggested the 18-year-old is unlikely to feature much more in the first-team this season.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Laura O’Leary, the Hoops legend insisted Robertson has a bright future at the club as he’s a talented lad.
The teenager recently did an interview to share he longed to play a further part in the club’s Europa League campaign and that he was working hard to earn some more first-team opportunities.
McNamara admitted that Robertson is likely to be overlooked by Neil Lennon in the second half of the season as he’ll want to call upon experienced players instead.
The ex-Hoops defender explained that with every game having so much pressure on it, then one mistake could end up costing the club and as a result, Lennon won’t make many changes.
When asked about Robertson’s remarks and whether he has a very bright future at Celtic, McNamara told Football Insider: “Yeah, he’s a talented lad.
“But the difficulty with that is obviously the experience, which Neil is searching for right now.
“This is a massive season and he hasn’t made a lot of changes, purely because of the pressure that is on every game with it tight at the top.
“So one mistake here or there could be crucial to the season, I think we’ve seen that over the last two months.
“So there hasn’t been many changes made.”
Robertson has so far racked up one appearance for the Hoops with him playing the full 90 minutes of the 3-0 loss to CFR Cluj in December.
The teenager used to be predominately an attacking midfielder but he has recently transitioned to playing the deeper, No.8 position.
