Jackie McNamara claims that Rangers midfielder Glen Kamara would be a low-risk signing for Premier League side Aston Villa with English sides reportedly eyeing up a transfer raid at Ibrox.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, the former Scotland international says that the 24-year-old has done well since swapping Dundee for Glasgow back in January, suggesting he is finally back up to speed after a slow start to the current campaign.
The Daily Mail report that Villa are among a number of Premier League sides keeping a close eye on the Finnish midfielder’s performances with a view to a potential transfer in January.
McNamara says that the 13-cap international would offer great value for money to those south of the border, highlighting how much cheaper players in Scotland are regardless of how they are performing.
McNamara told Football Insider: “He did well last season and it took him a little bit of time to settle back into this season but he’s definitely done well. He did well last week in the European game, he’s still at a young age.
“Scotland’s a cheap market compared to what they’d have to pay down south. It’s not much of a gamble to go and sign somebody in form as it is down there, where they’d have to fork out.
Kamara has established himself as a mainstay of Steven Gerrard’s side since joining the squad at Ibrox, playing a total of 31 times across all competitions.
This season has seen the Finland star make 15 appearances as he battles it out with the likes of Steven Davis, Ryan Jack, Joe Aribo and Scott Arfield for a place in the starting XI.
