Jackie McNamara has ruled out the need for another goalkeeper at Celtic due to the return of Conor Hazard as backup to Neil Lennon’s senior options.
The former Parkhead star, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, says that it appears as though Scott Bain is the manager’s first choice between the sticks heading into the new season, with Craig Gordon currently on the sidelines through injury.
The Hoops had three experienced options to call upon during the last campaign, Dorus De Vries failing to make a first-team appearance before announcing his retirement this summer.
With the Dutchman leaving Parkhead to hang up his boots, McNamara says there is no need for a new shot-stopper thanks to the return of 6ft 6in [Transfermarkt] tall Hazard, who is yet to feature for the Hoops.
“I don’t think they need another goalkeeper unless Craig’s going to be out injured,” McNamara told Football Insider.
“I don’t think they need another one because they’re going to have to keep them happy, the two of them fighting for their place and the young lad, Conor Hazard, who played the other night. He’s been on loan.
“Scott seems to have the number one jersey at the moment but that can change quickly. He’s fit and he’s got the jersey, if Craig Gordon was fit then we’d maybe know a bit more when Neil picks his team.”
As stated by McNamara, Hazard spent the second half of last season on loan at Partick Thistle, turning out 15 times for the Championship side.
While he is yet to turn out for Celtic, the colossal keeper has featured four times as an unused substitute for the Glasgow giants.
In other Celtic news, it can be REVEALED that the Hoops are in talks over signing a proven Premier League talent.
