Jackie McNamara has suggested that Uche Ikpeazu’s agent might be trying to drum up some interest in the Hearts striker after he was linked with a potential move to Celtic.
The former Celtic and Scotland international, speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, admitted that he was taken aback after reading that the Hoops were among a number of clubs interested in the centre-forward’s signing.
The Hoops, along with English Championship side QPR, have been reported by West London Sport to have been keeping tabs on the 24-year-old powerhouse over a potential transfer raid.
McNamara says he does not think there is anything in the links between the Bhoys and the powerful Hearts star, suggesting that it could just be the player’s representative trying to get more clubs interested in signing the forward.
Asked about the links with the striker, McNamara told Football Insider: “No, I was quite surprised with that, I think it is probably just paper talk.
“I don’t think (there’s anything in that). I’d be surprised if that was real, it might just be his agent.
“He’s done well for Hearts, he’s strong but there’s a big difference.”
Ikpeazu, who stands just short of 6ft 3in [Transfermarkt] up front, joined Craig Levein’s side on a free transfer from Cambridge United last summer, having spent the majority of his youth career at Watford and on loan from the Hornets.
He has hit the back of the net 10 times for Hearts since moving north of the border, with two goals and two assists in six Premiership appearances this season.
