Jackie McNamara has suggested that Celtic defender Jozo Simunovic is looking to leave Parkhead in search of regular playing time.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Hoops and Scotland star insists that Neil Lennon has plenty of options to call upon at the heart of his defence and that there will be players looking to head out the door if they are not playing.
As revealed exclusively by Football Insider, the 24-year-old has agreed personal terms with French outfit Lille over a permanent move to Ligue 1, the two clubs now working towards agreeing a transfer fee.
Despite having started and played the full 90 minutes in the club’s Champions League qualifiers, McNamara suggests Christopher Jullien’s arrival could limit his game time, leaving the Croatian seeking a move elsewhere.
McNamara told Football Insider: “They’ve got options, they’ve brought in Jullien and there are others still in the squad who will probably want off and maybe one or two out on loan.
“It’s hard to keep everyone happy, like Simunovic, you’ve got Jack Hendry there as well.
“(In the starting XI) You’ve got Ajer, Jullien – they’ve got a lot of options there. In some sense there will be players there who want to move out, that maybe aren’t going to feature so they’ll want to go out and play and they’ll (Celtic) use that to strengthen other areas.”
Simunovic featured just 18 times in the Scottish Premiership last season, injuries leaving him forced to watch from the sidelines as he managed 30 appearances across all competitions.
He has a total of 114 games under his belt for the Hoops, finding the back of the net on four occasions.
