Exclusive: McNamara tips Rangers to loan out senior player with English club reportedly keen
Jackie McNamara admitted that he could envision Rangers wanting to loan attacker Jordan Jones out after being asked about Blackburn Rovers’ reported pursuit.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Laura O’Leary, the former Scotland international suggested that Jones may not be in Steven Gerrard’s plans for the second half of the season.
It was recently reported that Blackburn were weighing up a move for the 25-year-old, and it could possibly be a loan deal until the end of the campaign with a view to a permanent deal.
It is believed Blackburn boss Tony Mowbray is a huge admirer of Jones and may be ready to test the Scottish side’s resolve when it comes to keeping him.
While McNamara didn’t seem to believe Jones would be sold, he did think it was plausible the Gers would loan him out.
When asked about Blackburn joining the hunt for Jones, McNamara told Football Insider: “Jordan Jones I think possibly will be a more realistic exit compared to other players linked with sides and facing exits.
“Just because he’s not playing at Rangers and maybe someone is wanting a winger on loan.
“So it’s easy to imagine him going out on loan if he’s not going to play or not be in Gerrard’s plans from now until the summer.
“So it could be a realistic move if they want him out.”
The Northen Irish winger only arrived at Ibrox in the summer after joining the Gers from Kilmarnock but hasn’t featured very often due to an injury.
Jones has featured of a total of 10 times this season and while he has been fit enough to feature in recent weeks, it has been stated that he’s yet to win back Gerrard’s trust.
In other Rangers news, Alan Hutton was concerned by recent sighing involving Gers star which was pure ‘Nonsense’.
