Bolton Wanderers are on the verge of signing Northampton defender Joe Bunney, Football Insider understands.

The defender, 25, has undergone a medical at the League One strugglers today and is expected to join on loan until the end of the season.

A Bolton source has told Football Insider that Bunney is set to become the latest new arrival at the club following the captures of midfielder Liam Bridcutt and Stoke winger Thibaud Verlinden.

New Bolton boss Keith Hill is desperately trying to bring in new players to bolster his threadbare squad before Monday's 5pm transfer deadline.

Hill is a big fan of Bunney having worked with the full-back during his time in charge of Rochdale.

The manager converted Bunney from a forward into a left-back and he has subsequently played the best football of his career.

Bunney joined Northampton from Rochdale in January and he has made 16 appearances for the club.

He has entered the final year of his contract for the Cobblers.
