Exclusive: Mega-money Rangers player bid tipped by pundit after Gerrard claim
Rangers would still consider offers for their top stars in January if the bid is big enough, according to Alan Hutton.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Gers and Scotland full-back suggested every player at Ibrox – including the likes of James Tavernier and Glen Kamara – will have their price, regardless of their importance to the team.
As quoted by the Daily Record, Gerrard stated that none of the Gers’ “big players” would be leaving in the January window despite talk of sales at the club’s AGM last week.
The Light Blues spent big on the likes of Kemar Roofe and Cedric Itten over the summer, while they only picked up transfer fees for fringe players Greg Docherty and Matt Polster.
Hutton has insisted he does not see any of the Gers’ top stars leaving Ibrox halfway through a potentially history-making season but suggested a big-money fee could tempt the board into selling.
Asked if Rangers could consider cashing in if for a mega price, Hutton told Football Insider: “You’ve hit the nail on the head. If the price is right, anybody will go. It doesn’t matter who you are in the team, whether we’re talking about the captain (Tavernier) or Morelos or Kamara.

“If somebody puts in an offer you can’t turn down, then they’ll leave but I think Rangers are in a strong position because they’re willing to hold out, I don’t think they’ll let anybody go on the cheap, they’re not desperate to bring in money.
“They’ll want to keep hold of all their top players because it’s such a huge, important season for Rangers moving forward. They are a stage now where it is about winning trophies, they are at that level to compete now so they want to keep everybody there.
“The summer, I think that’ll be a different story, that is possibly when they may have to move a few on and bring some others in to level up the books, should we say so. I can’t see any big players leaving in January.”
Gerrard told the Daily Record: “None of our big players will be going anywhere in January. I’m well aware of the club’s situation and what we need to do moving forward. Of course I totally understand that at some point we will have to trade someone. I’m not naive enough to think that we won’t have to do that.
“It’s extremely important that we keep our best players certainly in the next window and that they are here for the duration of the season. I think the board are aware of that and want that as well.”
