Middlesbrough are planning a January move to sign Peterborough United star Marcus Maddison, Football Insider understands.
The 26-year-old playmaker is regarded as one of the best attacking players in the Football League and has attracted interest from a number of leading clubs over the years.
A Boro source has told Football Insider that the club are ready to activate Maddison’s release clause of £2.6million ahead of the January window.
He has an outstanding track record in the Football League, notably during his five years at Peterborough.
The attacking midfielder has again impressed this season with ten goals and eight assists in 20 games to spearhead his team’s promotion bid from League One.
Maddison, who is entering the final six months of his contract, has a release clause that can be activated from January.
