Middlesbrough have tabled a third bid in the region of £2million for Charlton Athletic defender Anfernee Dijksteel, Football Insider understands.

The north-east club are determined to land Dijksteel before the transfer window closes and have gone back with an improved offer after seeing their opening two bids rejected.

Bristol City are also interested in Dijksteel, but a Middlesbrough source has told Football Insider that they hope to sway Charlton into selling with their latest move.

Boro have been pushing for a deal for Dijksteel all summer as they look to land the right-back.

Manager Jonathan Woodgate has made a new right-back one of his main priorities before next week's transfer deadline and Dijksteel is seen as the perfect man to fill that role.

Charlton are reluctant to lose Dijksteel as they prepare for life back in the Championship having already lost the likes of Joe Aribo and Patrick Bauer this summer.

Capped by Holland at Under-20 level, the defender made 39 appearances in all competitions for Charlton last season as they secured promotion via the play-offs.
