Midfielder Kyle Scott is set to undergo a Newcastle United medical and complete a move to the club in the next 48 hours, Football Insider can reveal.

A Newcastle source has told Football Insider that Scott, 21, is poised to sign a three-year contract after accepting the club's offer to join on a free transfer.

The rising star, who can operate in central, defensive or attacking midfield roles, is available after his contract at Chelsea expired at the end of last month.

Intriguingly, Newcastle have opted to push through the signing even though ex-manager Rafael Benitez had laid the groundwork for recruiting him before his exit last month.

The identity of the new Magpies manager, believed to be Steve Bruce, will not have a bearing on the deal being completed in the coming days.

Newcastle are convinced Scott has the potential to make a big impact at the club after failing to break into Chelsea's star-studded first team.

The USA Under-20 international made just one first-team appearance for Chelsea in the FA Cup against Hull in 2018 and he had a spell out on loan in Holland with Telstar last season.

He accumulated extensive experience for the Europa League champions at Under-23s level, making 41 appearances in which he scored twice and supplied eight assists.
