Exclusive: Mills believes Tottenham player set for 'Massive boost' based on reported speculation
Danny Mills believes Tottenham midfielder Eric Dier is set to receive a massive boost with him reportedly set to be handed a contract extension.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Laura O’Leary, the former England defender suggested Dier deserved to be rewarded for doing the specific job Jose Mourinho has handed him.
It was recently reported that Dier will be one of the next players to discuss fresh terms following teammate Toby Alderweireld signing a new contract, as he has regained his first-team spot under Mourinho.
Mills acknowledged that Dier may not be popular with Spurs supporters but pointed out it doesn’t really matter as long as the club win football matches.
When asked what he made of Dier being in line for a contract extension given he doesn’t seem to have won the fans over, Mills told Football Insider: “No, but if you start winning football matches, that’s all that matters because it doesn’t really matter how you’re winning.
“If you can win and play amazing, great. But first and foremost it’s just about winning.

“And if you’ve got a player who is doing a specific job for the team and is doing it well, then you reward him.
“So of course it’s a massive boost to him but it’s also a sign to everyone that if you do your job and do what is asked of you, you will also be rewarded.
“And if that’s your motivation, then it’s a little bit of a carrot and incentive for everyone else to go out and achieve those type of things.”
The 25-year-old England international has played 14 times across all competitions this season, registering one assist in the process.
Dier joined Spurs from Portuguese giants Sporting Lisbon in 2014 and his current contract is due to expire in June 2021.
