Exclusive: Mills suggests Mourinho may be fighting to keep reportedly in-demand Tottenham star
Danny Mills suggested Jose Mourinho may be fighting to keep hold of Tottenham playmaker Christian Eriksen.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Laura O’Leary, the former England international shared that the Spurs boss may feel Eriksen is worth keeping as he could help fire the club into the Champions League.
It was recently reported that the Danish playmaker is in-demand as Inter Milan are desperate to sign him before the end of the transfer window.
It is claimed that Spurs are open to selling him for £17million and so far have been disappointed by Milan’s bids.
Mills explained that Mourinho may be in Eriksen’s ear telling him to leave on a free in the summer, which contradicts Daniel Levy trying to sell the playmaker for the most money he can.
When asked if Spurs should be selling Eriksen for whatever they can rather than trying to squeeze more money out of Inter, given Eriksen’s contract, Mills told Football Insider: “Yeah but we know what Levy is like, he’ll drag it out to the bitter end.

“And there also may be part of it where Mourinho might be thinking we could still use this player, he could provide something for us.
“Whether that is helping us get into the Champions League…as how much money could they recoup if he scores two or three goals and gets assists to get them into the Champions League? That could be massive.
“£11million would be irrelevant if Mourinho wants him around, there’s every chance he could be saying to Eriksen, look, stay, stay until the end of the season.
“Sign your pre-contract, go on a free in the summer and probably, that extra £11million will be yours to do what you want with.
“So this could be a little bit of a debate, over what Levy wants and how long he is prepared to wait to get the maximum money for the club as opposed to what Mourinho wants and what he is saying to the player.”
The 27-year-old has played 27 times for Spurs across all competitions this season, scoring three goals and registering three assists in the process.
Eriksen has been with the North London club since 2013 but his current contract is one course to expire at the end of the season.
