Millwall are among a number of Championship clubs chasing Motherwell midfielder Allan Campbell, Football Insider can reveal.

The 22-year-old’s current contract expires at the end of the season despite Motherwell’s best efforts to tie him down.

A recruitment source has told Football Insider the Londoners are keen to strike a deal for the Scot this month.

The Lions are keen to bolster their midfield options in the January transfer window.

London News Online report Milwall have seen a club-record bid for former loanee Jayson Molumby turned down by Brighton & Hove Albion.

The 21-year-old Republic of Ireland international impressed on loan at the New Den but Campbell has emerged as a potential alternative for Millwall.

The 24-times Scotland Under-21 international has played 141 times for the Well since making his debut as an 18-year-old in October 2016.

Operating primarily in a defensive midfield role, he has found the net 13 times and provided nine assists for his boyhood club.

His performances earlier this season saw the club open talks over a new contract but he is yet to commit to fresh terms.

Interim Motherwell manager Keith Lasley told the Daily Record in October “the sky is the limit” for Campbell.

He added: “I have absolutely no doubt, when the time is right, that Allan will make that move and will handle it, but from a Motherwell perspective and my own perspective I’m desperate to see him pulling on the claret and amber for as long as possible.”

In other news, Millwall’s Championship rivals Preston North End are set to sign a striker today.
