Exclusive: MK Dons favourites to land Grigg after hijacking Shrewsbury deal

MK Dons are the new favourites to sign Will Grigg from Sunderland before tonight's deadline, Football Insider can exclusively reveal.

However, a recruitment source has told Football Insider that move has stalled as MK Dons have hijacked the deal with their own offer for Grigg.

Grigg has fallen out of favour at the Stadium of Light and manager Lee Johnson has given the green light for the Northern Ireland international to leave the club following the arrival of Ross Stewart from Ross County.

The £3million signing from Wigan Athletic in January 2019 has struggled since arriving to the north east and has not scored this season.

He has made 12 appearances across all competitions this term but has not started since the 1-1 draw with Wimbledon in mid-December.

However, MK Dons, Oxford United and Fleetwood Town are all interested in signing him despite his indifferent form.

Grigg is among the top earners at Sunderland and still has 18 months left to run on his contract.

He has scored 101 goals in just over 300 League One appearances from spells at Walsall, Brentford, MK Dons and Wigan.

He could now be set to return to Stadium MK, having previously joined the club on loan from Brentford for the 2014/15 campaign.
