Brighton are keen to double their investment on top Newcastle United target Joao Pedro, sources have told Football Insider.

The Seagulls star, 23, is high on the shortlist at St James' Park as they look set to miss out on Man United-bound winger Bryan Mbeumo.

Newcastle are keen to add competition and cover for superstar striker Alexander Isak in the summer transfer window.

The Magpies have unlocked extra transfer funds after qualifying for the Champions League in the 2025-26 campaign.

Brighton will accept £50-60m Pedro bids

Pedro only joined Brighton from Watford for around £30million in 2023 but could already be set to leave the Amex Stadium in the off-season.

Sources say a bid of around £50-60million would be accepted by the south coast club - who have established a reputation for banking huge profits in the transfer market.

Newcastle were strongly linked with Pedro before his Brighton switch but failed to agree a move to bring him to St James’ Park at the time.

He has since hit 30 goals and notched 10 assists in 70 games for the Seagulls - with 19 of those strikes coming in the Premier League.

Pedro is under contract at the Amex Stadium until June 2028.

Pope makes decision on Newcastle exit

Meanwhile, Football Insider has revealed (2 June) that Nick Pope’s preference is to remain at Newcastle this summer – even if James Trafford joins the club.

Pope, 33, has been widely linked with a move to newly-promoted Leeds United.

Daniel Farke’s side are desperate to add a new first-choice goalkeeper but sources say Pope wants to remain at Newcastle and fight for a first-choice berth.
