Paul Robinson has insisted that West Ham can overcome a sticky patch to secure a top-six Premier League finish this season.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Tottenham and England goalkeeper believes there is enough talent in the Hammers squad to seize on the opportunity presented by Manchester United and Spurs’ struggles.
The Hammers were third in the Premier League after beating Man United in late September but have slipped to 13th after losing three of their last four matches in the competition.
Nevertheless, Robinson believes there is a solidity and strength in depth in Manuel Pellegrini’s side that makes them a different proposition this season.
“West Ham have always got ambitions of the top-six,” Robinson told Football Insider. “Let’s say there’s a different feel this year, there’s a different feel to their ambition.
“There’s a bit of credibility, there’s solidity to the feel this year. You look at the team and they’ve got reason to (believe).
“Also, the form of Tottenham and Manchester United, there’s a real opportunity there. This is the first year I think that’s a real opportunity – Leicester for example – there is a real opportunity for West Ham and Leicester to break that top-six this year.”
West Ham are next in action on Saturday when they travel to Turf Moor to face Burnley.
There is then a two-week international break pause before Pellegrini’s side host Tottenham at the London Stadium.
